The countries in which we work are among the worst in the world, in terms of health indicators, in particular Haiti which has the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the Western Hemisphere. More than 65% of the population does not have access to basic health and nutrition services. Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, diarrhea, respiratory infections, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS are among the leading causes of death in Haiti. These diseases disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations for whom access to basic health services is a luxury they cannot afford. This is also true for the DRC where the health system is very limited and access to the most remote areas is very difficult. Thanks to our health partners, in particular the community health center SOVE LAVI in Haiti, Sourire d'Enfants is committed to guaranteeing access to quality health care for the most vulnerable people in the population. Gender based violence (GDB) care, and maternal and child care are among the many areas covered by our health care component.
